Information
For starters I became a cannabis breeder because I was drawn to the balance of precision and creativity the work demands. Theres something just deeply satisfying about studying plant genetics, noticing subtle differences in structure, aroma, and effect, and then using that knowledge to shape something new. The process rewards patience and focus tracking traits across generations, dialing in environments, and refining outcomes over time. It gives me a sense of control and purpose, while still leaving room for curiosity and experimentation. Working closely with the plants also creates a steady, grounding rhythm, where each cycle builds on the last. What started as a strong interest gradually turned into a meaningful pursuit, where I can combine observation, discipline, and creativity into something tangible. Being autistic has also shaped the way I connect with this work in a meaningful way. Breeding aligns naturally with my tendency to focus deeply, recognize patterns, and find comfort in structured, repeatable processes. The consistency of caring for plants and tracking their development provides a sense of stability, while the subtle variations between each phenotype keep me engaged and curious. It gives me a space where my attention to detail is a strength, not a challenge, and where I can fully immerse myself without feeling overwhelmed. In many ways, breeding has become more than a craft it’s a supportive outlet that helps me regulate, stay grounded, and channel my focus into something productive and rewarding. On a medical level, the work also carries personal significance. Developing and selecting specific cannabinoid and terpene profiles allows me to focus on strains that may support relief from issues like sleep difficulties, chronic pain, anxiety, ptsd, depression, eating difficulties, seizures, and bipolar. Being involved in the process from seed to final product gives me a deeper understanding of how different traits interact and affect the body, making the outcome feel more intentional and reliable. Beyond the physical benefits, the act of growing itself can be therapeutic and offering routine, reducing stress, and creating a sense of connection to something living. It turns what could be passive treatment into an active, informed practice that supports both well-being and independence.Ben B
